Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
We start this week in Holbeck where the Jamyang Buddhist Centre is holding its famous Holbeck Jumble Sale full of bargains and of course the Happy Yak café will be open too. Ingram Road, LS11 9RQ, 10am-1pm.
St Mary’s Church in Beeston is holding its Christmas Fair on Saturday from 10am. Expect craft and cake stalls, tombola, refreshments and more at Beeston Parish Centre, Town Street, LS11 8PN.
If you’re looking for a sixth form college place for next year you might want to pop down to Elliott Hudson College on Saturday 10am-12:45pm for their Open Day. Book here.
The Great Yorkshire Vegan Festival is back this month with over 80 Vegan Stalls including world food caterers, cakes, pies, salads, charity merchandise, clothing, drinks, juices, clothing, free samples and much more. It all takes place at the Indoor Bowls & Athletics Centre at John Charles Centre for Sport, Middleton Grove, LS11 5DJ, on Saturday from 10:30am-4:30pm. Tickets: bit.ly/YorksVegan
Next to Cottingley where the community centre (LS11 0HJ) is hosting a Christmas Fair from 11am-2pm. As well as stalls selling cakes, gifts, clothes, toys games the kitchen will be serving fancy hot chocolate, hot dogs, mince pies and cakes.
Back in Holbeck the Christmas Market kicks off at 12pm on Saturday at St Matthew’s Community Centre, LS11 9NR. Another opportunity to stock up on Christmas presents and for the kids to see Santa and followed by the switching on of the Christmas Lights from 4:30pm on Holbeck Moor.
Our last Christmas Fayre of the day is in Belle Isle at St Peter’s Church Hall, Petersfield Avenue, 1-3pm.
Semi professional South Leeds FC have some special guests for their match against Dronfield Town on Saturday. DAZL dance and South Leeds Juniors will join them at South Leeds Stadium, Middleton Grove, LS11 5DJ. The match kicks off is at 3pm.
St Luke’s Church on Malvern Road, LS11 8PD is holding another free family-friendly film night on Saturday starting at 4:30pm. The film this time is ‘Inside Out 2’. As always the movie is free, but there will be popcorn, hotdogs, chocolate and drinks for sale at 50p per item.
Also on Saturday the Leeds Knights take on the Telford Tigers. The ice hockey match faces off at 6:30pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
On Sunday it’s Middleton Park Equestrian Centre’s annual charity dog show featuring fun classes for all, photographers, agility course, stalls and refreshments. The centre is on Middleton Grove, LS11 5TZ and the show runs from 11am-3pm.
Our Future Beeston is running a sustainable Christmas decorations craft workshop at Beeston Village Community Centre on Monday morning from 11am-1pm. Email ourfuturebeeston@gmail.com to book. They are also running a drop-in advice session covering any concerns or questions about your energy usage, support with bills, managing heating or reducing costs on Thursday from 10am, also at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.
As it’s the first week of September there are a number of residents meetings taking place, starting with Middleton Community Group which meets on Monday, 6-7pm, at the Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, Acre Road, LS10 4LF.
Also on Monday, the Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association meets at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.
There are a number of Covid and Flu vaccination drop-in sessions this week. These are for eligible groups including those over 65 years or with various health issues. The clinics run on Tuesday, 10am-5pm, at St George’s Centre, Middleton, LS10 4UZ ; Wednesday 9am-5pm at Beeston Library and Hub, Town Street, LS11 8PN; and Friday, 9am-5pm at Hunslet Library and Hub, Waterloo Road, LS10 2NS. No appointment needed.
The Middleton Life History Group meets on Wednesday at 10am at the United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG.
Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF
Also on Thursday, Beeston Community Forum meets at 7:30pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.
And finally, on Friday morning Middleton Elderly Aid host their monthly legal advice session from 9:30-11am at their social centre on Acre Road, LS10 4JQ.
