What’s On Roundup 26 October – 1 November 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week with a Jumble Sale in Belle Isle at St Peter’s Church Hall on Petersfield Avenue. Saturday 1-3pm.

South Bank Sanctuary (formerly the Church of the Nazarene) on Hunslet Hall Road in Beeston is hosting Let Your Light Shine on Saturday from 4-6pm. This is a ‘trunk and treats’ event with crafts, hot dogs and fancy dress.

On Saturday evening MHA Leeds South are hosting a Line Dancing evening. Halloween fancy dress is optional and there’s pie & peas supper. It takes place at South Leeds Conservative Club on Wooler Street in Beeston from 7-10pm. To book tickets call 0113 271 6201 or email southleeds@mha.org.uk.

On Sunday afternoon the Friends of Middleton Park will be leading a spooky guided walk for Hallowe’en exploring ‘Death in the Park’. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1pm. Wear boots or walking shoes and dress for the weather.

The Selective Licensing of private landlords scheme is set to be extended to cover Holbeck and there is an information drop in session at Jamyang Buddhist Centre, Ingram Road, LS11 9RQ on Monday from 3-7pm.

Tuesday is play day in Hunslet Town Square (outside the Library). The outdoor event takes place from 10:45am and is delivered by Hunslet & Belle Isle Community Project. Activities will include various water activities, a sand pit, chalk art, den building, bubbles, parachute games and sports.

Spend a day playing outdoors at Skelton Grange Environment Centre in Stourton on Tuesday. Activities may include open fire cooking, crafts, and/or wide games. For children aged 8-13 years. For more information and booking go to: tcv.org.uk/skeltongrange

There are a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from and in the central atrium at White Rose Shopping Centre, both 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and outside St Matthew’s Community Centre on Holbeck Moor Road from 10:30am-12pm. Finally they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street on Thursday 10am-12pm.

At Holbeck Cemetery, Fairfax Road, LS11 8SY, volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Wednesday to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.

On Wednesday MHA South Leeds are hosting a Winter Wellbeing event at St Andrew’s Community Centre in Beeston (LS11 8AL). There will be information, advice and support around staying warm, rising costs of food and energy, as well as mental health and wellbeing. Drop in from 10am-2pm, and enjoy a free soup and roll.

Wednesday also sees Middleton Elderly Aid’s Memory Café for people living with dementia and their carers. It takes place at MEA’s Social Centre on Acre Road, LS10 4JQ from 1:30-3pm.

Experience a guided ghost walk around the historic Marshall’s Mill in Holbeck on Wednesday, 6-9pm. You’ll have a chance to use some hunting equipment as well as hear a haunting ghost story and enjoy thrilling performances. Bring your friends and family for a night of frightful fun. Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, off Church Street, LS10 2NS.

South Leeds Community Club (formerly the Peggy Tub) on Woodhouse Hill Road in Hunslet Carr are holding a Children’s Halloween Disco on Thursday, 4-7pm, tickets £2.

Trinity Network are holding an over 55s Halloween party and disco on Thursday, 12-3pm, at the United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG

Cottingley Children’s Centre (LS11 0JP) are hosting a Baby boutique, school uniform exchange and winter coats event on Friday, 9:30-1:30am. This is a great opportunity to get pre-loved clothes for your children and even pick up a winter coat for yourself.

And finally, we will be distributing our November newspaper to 200 pick up points around LS10 and LS11 from Wednesday onwards so watch out for a copy.
