What’s On Roundup 26 April – 2 May 2025

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week in Cross Flatts Park, where Beeston in Bloom are holding a plant sale from10am-12pm at the Watsoinia Pavilion near the bowling greens at the top of the park.

Cllr Paul Wray (Labour, Hunslet & Riverside) will be holding advice surgeries on Saturday morning at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, LS10 2NS from 10-11am and at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, LS11 6PF from 11:30am-12:30pm.

The cricket season is underway and Saturday sees Hunslet Nelson’s Second XI take on Scholes Second XI at their Gipsy Lane ground, LS11 5TT starting at 12:30pm. Then on Sunday at 1pm the Sunday First XI play Morley, also at home.

Leeds Dads will be holding another free Soft Play session, 10am-12pm on Sunday morning at Little Angels behind the Tommy Wass pub, LS11 7HL. This for dads and pre-school children and there’s free tea and toast! Book: leedsdads.org/events

On Monday evening Leeds United entertain Bristol City at Elland Road. Kick-off is at 8pm and you can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley.

Join Opera North for fun weekly creative music workshops, where you’ll have the chance to work with a songwriter and poet to create a brand new piece of music telling the stories you want to tell. The next session is on Tuesday 1:30-3:30pm at Involve Centre in Hunslet, LS10 2QE.

Cllr Wayne Dixon (SDP, Middleton Park) will be holding an advice surgery at Middleton Elderly Aid’s Social Centre on Acre Road from 9:30-10:30am.

At Holbeck Cemetery, Fairfax Road, LS11 8SY, volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Wednesday to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.

There will be a residents meeting in Cottingley on Wednesday evening at the community centre (LS11 0HJ) starting at 6:30pm. Councillors and housing staff will be present and it’s hoped to form a new committee and hold regular meetings.

On Thursday evening you can experience an immersive musical concert featuring both turntables and an orchestra. ‘Parable’ is at Testbed on Butterley Street, LS10 1ES.

Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF

Also on Thursday, Beeston Community Forum meets at 7:30pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.

On Friday morning Middleton Elderly Aid host their monthly legal advice session from 9:30-11am at their social centre on Acre Road, LS10 4JQ.

There’s a chance to borrow a piece of art from Leeds Art Gallery’s collection. The Picture Lending scheme will be open from Thursday to Sunday at the gallery on The Headrow in town. If you’re not already a member apply to join – you can choose your artwork and take it home the same day.

The Tower Works Street Fest runs from next Friday to Sunday, off Water Lane in Holbeck. You will find fresh produce and street food to handmade crafts, original art, craft beer, specialty coffee, live music, and so much more.

And finally, we will be distributing our May newspaper to 200 pick up points around LS10 and LS11 from Wednesday onwards so watch out for a copy.
