What’s On Roundup 23-29 November 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week in Beeston where Fineses Dance Academy are hosting a Christmas Fair on Saturday from 12-3pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.

Christmas lights are being switched on across South Leeds and on Saturday it’s Hunslet’s turn. Hunslet Tenants & Residents Association have organised a Christmas market and lights switch on from 6-8pm on Church Street.

On Sunday the Leeds Knights take on the Peterborough Phantoms. The ice hockey match faces off at 5:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.

Also on Monday evening, 6:30-8pm, the Beeston Hill Community Association will be meeting at the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road, LS11 6RD.

Middleton Park councillors have got together with Breeze to host an evening of family fun culminating with the switch on of the Christmas lights. It all takes place at Middleton Park Circus on Monday running from 6:30pm. The Christmas lights will be switched on at 8pm.

There will be a Councillor advice surgery at Middleton Elderly Aid’s Social Centre on Acre Road on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am.

At Holbeck Cemetery, Fairfax Road, LS11 8SY, volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Wednesday to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.

Wednesday also sees Middleton Elderly Aid’s Memory Café for people living with dementia and their carers. It takes place at MEA’s Social Centre on Acre Road, LS10 4JQ from 1:30-3pm.

Illuminating Leeds with movement, energy and light, Here Marks The Spot (part of Compass Festival) maps sites of queer joy with short dance films. You can catch a screening on Wednesday night from 6-7pm at Sunken Studio, Sovereign House, Butterly Street, LS10 1AW.

Leeds United take on Luton Town in the Championship on Wednesday night. Kick-off is at 7:45pm and you can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley.

Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, off Church Street, LS10 2NS.

The Salvation Army Band will be present outside Nisa on Town Street, Beeston to lead the carol singing from 6pm on Thursday before the Christmas Lights are switched on. Once the lights are lit, free hot food will be served over the road in the Beeston Parish Centre. The event is co-hosted by St Mary’s Church, Beeston Festival and Beeston in Bloom.

On Friday residents of Beeston & Holbeck ward can meet their Councillors at the monthly surgeries: 4pm at Beeston Library on Town Street; 5pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck; and 6pm at Cottingley Community Centre.

And finally, we will be distributing our December newspaper to 200 pick up points around LS10 and LS11 from Wednesday onwards so watch out for a copy.
