What’s On Roundup 22-28 July 2023

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

This week we start with a double header family show in Holbeck. The Lovely Boys present a Family Friendly Comedy Spectacular, featuring two fringe shows. Kids Know Best is an interactive comedy chat show where kids give advice to the adults in the crowd. Whilst Mules is packed with silly games, madcap fantasy and distorted guitars. Showtime is 1pm on Saturday, book your pay-what-you-decide tickets at www.slunglow.org/shows Please note this show has been moved to Slung Low’s Warehouse in Holbeck, Crosby Street, LS11 9RQ due to the weather.

Another victim of the weather is the Hunslet Club’s Summer Gala which was due to take place on Saturday, but has now been postponed until Saturday 2 September.

Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club are holding a family friendly race night on Saturday. Doors open at 7pm and the first race is at 8pm. The club is located on Gipsy Lane in Beeston, opposite Cockburn School.

Marshall Waddington has brought his fun fair to Middleton Park this weekend. Opening times are: Friday 6pm-late; Saturday 1pm-late and Sunday 1-6pm.

The Holbeck Repair Café takes place on Saturday afternoon, 1-4pm, at The Holbeck club on Jenkinson Lawn, LS11 9QX. This is a chance to get items mended, or if you are mender to volunteer your time a skills to help others in the community.

Bands in the Park concludes on Sunday in Cross Flatts Park, 2:30-4:30pm, with ‘Duo Nostalagia’ – songs accompanied by accordian promising tangos and more. Wakefield ladies choir ‘She Sings’ will also perform. As usual, there will also be craft activities for children and the café will be open selling homemade cakes. The band will play inside if it is raining.

If you have any questions or concerns for the Police there are three chances to meet with PCSOs from the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team this week. They will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library on Tuesday; then at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday; and also at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Thursday. All sessions are 10am-12pm.

If you’ve got a couple of hours to help tidying up Holbeck Cemetery, the volunteers group will be meeting at 10am on Wednesday, all equipment is provided, dress for the weather.
