What’s On Roundup 21 December – 3 January 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming fortnight in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week with the Belle Isle Repair Cafe, which is back at BITMO’s Gate on Saturday, 1-4pm. This month is a festive event. Bring your broken things and let the fixers work their magic. There will be a variety of stalls including free winter coats, there’s even a Councillor drop-in between 1:30-2:30pm. Santa will be in the building and there are free presents for the first 100 children to visit the grotto Everyone is welcome for hot drinks and mince pies.

Leeds United entertain Oxford United on Saturday afternoon, kicking off at 3pm. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after each match.

Youth charity Re:establish are holding their Christmas Family Fundraiser at The Holbeck club (LS11 9QX) on Saturday from 4-8pm. Food, bingo, games, raffles and dance performances are promised.

The weekend team are taking over running the café at Middleton Park Visitor Centre by the lake. The café is open daily through to Sunday 5 January, except Christmas Day.

On Sunday 28 December the Leeds Knights take on the Solway Sharks. The ice hockey match faces off at 5:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.

Yorkshire Contemporary (the new name for The Tetley arts organisation) is running Art, Food and Play sessions at the Rowland Road Play Patch at Rowland Road Social Club in Beeston. The sessions run from 11am-4pm on Monday 30, Tuesday 31 December, Thursday 2 and Friday 3 January,. You can drop in any time, lunch is free for those on free school meals, £5 for others.

And finally, Cross Flatts parkrun are hosting an extra event on New Year’s Day. As usual the 5km walk, jog or run starts at 9am, it’s the perfect way to clear your head after the excesses of the night before.
