What’s On Roundup 17-23 February 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week in Belle Isle where the Belle Isle Repair Cafe is back at BITMO’s Gate from 1-4pm. Do you have a small item at home that you’d like the fixers to try to repair? Join them for a warm drink and enjoy a free toastie. And if you’d like to get involved with this year’s Belle Isle Gala, they’re holding the first planning meeting at 3pm.

On Sunday afternoon the Friends of Middleton Park will be leading Winter guided walk with views through the trees and across Leeds. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1pm. Wear boots or walking shoes and dress for the weather.

Also on Sunday, Hunslet RLFC entertain Batley Bulldogs in the 1895 Cup at South Leeds Stadium. Kick off is at 3pm, tickets are cheaper if bought online in advance and under 16s go free.

On Monday evening Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club are hosting a free taster session for women and girls who would like to play cricket. The session runs from 7pm at Cockburn School, Gipsy Lane, Beeston LS11 5TT. Book on here

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with the Hong Kong community in Leeds on Tuesday, 12-2:30pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ. The free event will feature food, culture, games and performance, everyone is welcome.

There are three chances to catch up with PCSOs from the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team this week. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub and Library, off Church Street; on Wednesday they will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library; and on Thursday at Beeston Community Hub and Library, Town Street. Each drop in session runs 10am-12pm. Additionally, the NPT Contact Van will be outside St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck on Wednesday from 10:30am-12pm.

On Thursday evening Red Ladder presents The Light House at BITMO’s Gate in Belle Isle at 7:30pm

Drop in to Hunslet Community Hub & Library’s coffee morning on Friday morning 10-11:30am.

If you are looking for work in the care sector, Victoria House Care Home, Low Grange Crescent, Belle Isle, LS10 3EB is holding an open day on Friday from 10am-1:30pm.

On Friday residents of Beeston & Holbeck can meet their Councillors at the monthly surgeries: 4pm at Beeston Library on Town Street; 5pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck; and 6pm at Cottingley Community Centre.

And finally, on Friday evening Leeds United entertain Leicester City at Elland Road. Kick-off is at 8pm and you can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley.
