Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
We start this week in Belle Isle where the Repair Cafe is back at BITMO’s Gate on Saturday, 1-4pm. Bring your broken things and let the fixers work their magic. As well as the usual electrical and clothing fixers you can get your knives and scissors sharpened this month. You can also grab a free winter coat and a warm toastie. At 3pm they will be planning and chatting about this year’s Belle Isle Gala, a chance to find out how you can get involved on the day.
Semi-professional South Leeds FC play Swallownest on Saturday at South Leeds Stadium, Middleton Grove, LS11 5DJ. The match kicks off at 3pm.
On Sunday afternoon the Friends of Middleton Park will be leading a free guided walk exploring the park in winter. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1pm. Wear boots or walking shoes and dress for the weather.
The Leeds Knights ice hockey club have a busy week. Over the weekend they take on the Romford Raiders in the final of the National Cup. They face off in the home leg match at 5:15pm on Sunday. Then it’s back to League action on Friday when they host the Sheffield Steeldogs at 7:30pm. Both matches are at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
Don’t forget that the Watsonian Pavilion in Cross Flatts Park will be closed for refurbishment from Monday which means the Bridge Café will not be open.
Leeds United are at home to Sunderland on Monday evening, kicking off at 8pm. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.
There are more Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. You can meet with PCSOs at the Aldi store in Middleton (St George’s Retail Park, LS10 4TQ) on Tuesday from 9:30am and at Cottingley Community Centre (LS11 0HJ) on Friday from 10am-12pm.
The SEN-Tastic group meets on Thursday. It’s open to anyone who cares for children with special needs, parents, siblings, carers, childminders and grandparents and offers coffee, friendship, advice and support. The group runs from 9:15-10:30am at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD.
Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.
And finally, Holbeck Together host their Supper Club on Thursday, 4-6pm, at St Matthew’s Community Centre (LS11 9NR). Book your table by calling 0113 245 5553.

South Leeds Life is published by a not-for-profit social enterprise. We keep our costs as low as possible but we’ve been hit by increases in the print costs for our monthly newspaper which have doubled in the last two years.
