Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
We start on Saturday morning with the Middleton Makers Market, 10am-2pm, at Middleton Park Circus. Lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewelery, soaps and food; all made by local people. Santa Claus himself who will be giving out gifts to the children donated by Middleton Community Group. Come up and get your photo with him in his special grotto and Hope Community Church will be leading the carol singing.
Saturday morning,10am-12pm, is your last chance to see the Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary’s Church in Beeston. Organised by Beestron in Bloom and the church, twenty local groups, including South Leeds Life, have decorated a tree each to represent what they do.
Leeds Dads will be holding their final free Soft Play session of the year, 10am-12pm on Saturday morning at Little Angels behind the Tommy Wass pub, LS11 7HL. This for dads and pre-school children and there’s free tea and toast! Book: leedsdads.org/events
Trinity Network host their Community Reflections Café on Saturday 10am-12pm at the United reformed Church, Nesfield Avenue, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG
South Bank Sanctuary on Hunslet Hall Road have a table top sale on Saturday morning 10am-12pm.
Slung Low present their annual Christmas Fayre on Saturday 14 December, 12-4pm. With plenty of craft stalls for your unique Christmas gifts, plus carol singing, a brass band and pay-what-you-decide hog roast, vegan alternative and hot chocolate. At Slung Low’s Warehouse In Holbeck on Crosby Street, LS11 9RQ.
Semi-professional South Leeds FC play Harrogate Railway Athletic FC on Saturday at South Leeds Stadium, Middleton Grove, LS11 5DJ. The match kicks off at 3pm.
Leeds Knights have two home matches this week. On Saturday they take on the Romford Raiders at 6:30pm in the league. Then on Friday they face off against the Sheffield Steeldogs at 7:30pm in the cup. Both ice hockey matches take place at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
Runners of all ages and abilities are encouraged to test their sprint speed at a special event on Sunday, 11am-2pm, at the John Charles Indoor Athletics Centre. the Indoor Sprints Competition is an unmissable celebration of speed and determination. Register at bit.ly/LeedsSprints
Join the donkeys on the Wandering Nativity through Hunslet on Sunday afternoon. The Hunslet Gathering will be telling the Christmas story and singing carols as they go, then there will be donkey rides, gifts and refreshments. Meet at the Hunslet Spire on Church Street at 2pm, finish at the Church of the Nazarene on Lupton Street.
Sunday night is comedy night at Fearns on The Boulevard at Leeds Dock. The kitchen is open until 6pm and the fun runs from 6-9:30pm.
A Winter’s Trail is Skelton Grange Environment Centre’s annual winter fundraising event is a magical celebration of light in our darkest month. Wander along a candlelit trail in the woods and gardens at Skelton Grange and catch a glimpse into the secret worlds of the little folk who reside there… Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 4-6:30pm. The SEN-Tastic group meets on Thursday. It’s open to anyone who cares for children with special needs, parents, siblings, carers, childminders and grandparents and offers coffee, friendship, advice and support. The group runs from 9:15-10:30am at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD.
Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.
Lewis Robinson’s Comedy Road Show pulls up at The Holbeck club on Thursday evening 8-11pm. Five live comedians for just £5.
And finally, there is a Police Contact Point at Cottingley Community Centre on Friday, 10am-12pm. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting.
