The Middleton Railway Trust will launch its 2022 season on Saturday (2 April 2022) with a Community and Volunteer day.
On this day the Trust will unashamedly try and attract new volunteers, but many other local Community Groups will be taking part and pitch for volunteers and helpers and to tell the community what they offer. Middleton Railway is always looking for people with an engineering background to help in the workshops and on the track, but are also looking for people to help in the shop and cafe.
Together they will present a wide range of volunteering opportunities, in terms of time commitments, skills required and learning opportunities; but all sharing a chance to meet new people and make new friends.
As an added inducement for visitors to attend the Trust will not be charging for travel on the Railway at this event.
The following groups will be present:
- Friends of Middleton Park
- Middleton Park Equestrian Centre – Riding for the Disabled
- The Hunslet Tenants & Residents Association (Hunslet TARA)
- Middleton Life History Group
- South Leeds Life
A Fire Engine and crew from Hunslet Fire Station will be present – operational demands permitting – and we are hoping that West Yorkshire Police might be represented.
Charles Milner, Chair of Middleton Railway Trust said:
“The Trust really would like to use this day not just to help the recruitment of volunteers to work on our Railway but also to help other South Leeds groups recruit volunteers and tell visitors what they are about. A robust and resilient South Leeds Community is very much to the Railway’s benefit and we want to do what we can to assist in that objective.”
The event runs from 10am-4pm on Saturday 2 April at Middleton Railway, Moor Road, Hunslet, LS10 2JQ.
