St Anthony’s U11s Girls are Premier League Primary Stars

St Anthony’s Catholic Primary’s Under 11 Girls Team had the chance to show off their football skills whilst representing Leeds United at Elland Road this week when they took part in this year’s Premier League Primary Stars National Girls Football Tournament.

More than 9,000 children from schools across England and Wales competed for their chance to represent their clubs in this year’s football tournament. Participating teams won local club heats, earning themselves the chance to play on the pitch at Elland Road, in the playing kit of their Premier League side.

Councillors Annie Maloney and Andrew Scopes (Labour, Beeston & Holbeck) attended the tournament to cheer on the local school children who became Premier League footballers for the day.

Cllr Annie Maloney said:

“It was excellent to see girls’ football in action. As a young woman who didn’t have the opportunity to play football at school but who has been brought up with such a passion for the game, it’s fantastic to see football moving in the right direction.

“There’s still some way to go but it was incredibly positive to be surrounded by people who have an excitement for bringing football to our local communities and especially to young women and girls.

“It was really uplifting to watch the games with my colleague Cllr Andrew Scopes. The three Labour Councillors (myself, Cllr Scopes and Cllr Almass) in the ward are pleased to see Elland Road and the Leeds United Foundation hosting this kind of event.”
