Christmas cheer was certainly flowing through Hunslet Morrisons on Sunday afternoon (22 December 2019) while the 51st Hunslet St Mary’s Rainbows, Brownies and Guides were ready to lend a hand with the Hunslet Church plant to sing carols while raising money for the local foodbank.
The Girl Guide units are based at Hunslet St Mary’s primary school. Although they have finished meeting for the year, they have a fun programme planned for the coming year. They sang beautifully supported by their unit leaders and the Hunslet Church plant and brought Christmas cheer to passing shoppers.
Led by talented musicians, the singers brought all ages together and sang familiar carols visibly cheering up passers by who generously gave to the cause. The donations have been given to the Leeds South & East Foodbank which is at the Methodist Church, part of the Trussell Trust.
£217 was raised along with four boxes of biscuits which were generously donated and will go a long way to helping provide emergency food supplies to families in crisis. This is especially important at this time of year when finances and resources can be even tighter.
The Trust relies on donations to keep helping families so if you would like to donate you can do so via their website and find more information on how to donate food items there.
