Local group Save Our Beeston has offered its help to get the clock at St Mary’s church back in working order.
The church will be holding a sponsored walk on Sunday 12 March and the 5,000 strong Facebook group is calling on its members to back the event. The walk will follow a route around the parish boundary, about 4 miles in total, starting and finishing at the Beeston Parish Centre on Town Street. The walk will start at 11:30am.
The clock has not worked for a number of years and requires several thousand pounds worth of work to bring it back into full working order. It was built by William Potts & Sons, the famous Leeds clockmaker and installed when the present building was erected in the 1870s.
As well as walkers and sponsors, the church is looking for volunteers to prepare a soup and sandwich lunch for the returning walkers.
Sponsor forms are available from the church and offers of help can be made to the vicar, Rev Lindsey Pearson on 07961 016052 or (0113) 272 3337; or by email to: revlcp@btinternet.com.
