Residents in Beeston and Holbeck are being urged to attend the next meeting of the SPLASH campaign to reopen South Leeds Sports Centre.
SPLASH organisers are encouraging people to attend their next meeting, which will be on Monday, 23 January, at Hillside at 7pm. They’re hoping to build momentum in their campaign to reopen the centre which was closed November 2010.
As the official Olympics approach SPLASH is planning its own South Leeds Olympic Torch (SLOT) run through our area on 1 April. It hopes to be able to give our athletes a T-shirt, medal and brochure and wants to highlight the effects that the “ Austerity and Cuts” are having on our community.
Leeds council has identified the sports centre area as a site for a new primary school, while Greenhouse developers Citu have been exploring the possibility of opening eco-friendly sports facilities on the site.
