Space youth offer second helpings of Easter meals

Young people from the Space Youth programme in Beeston will once again be hosting their Easter Meals this month.

The youth programme, co-ordinated by the Salvation Army and run in partnership with the local churches and Leeds Space Network, works with young people aged 11-18 and runs youth groups and other actvities for young people aged 11-18 in Beeston. The programme has been running for over 12 years.

For the last few years the young people have, prepared, cooked and served meals for people across the community in the run up to Easter. Once dinner is cooked and served, the young people then sit down to eat with their guests as an opportunity to build relationships across the generations with members of the local community and churches.

Last year, over two separate meals, over 120 guests enjoyed the meals, with one guest describing it as “one of the highlights of our year” – a sentiment shared by many others who spoke of the great food and company with some even taking recipes away to try again.

This year there will be two meals run on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 March at 6pm at the Church of the Nazarene and City Evangelical Church respectively. And as an added extra, the young people will be displaying some artwork around the theme of Easter that they have been creating during their sessions.
