South Leeds Sports Centre campaigners set for May Day Rally

Campaigners fighting to get South Leeds Sports Centre reopened are set to join the Leeds May Day rally on Saturday. The event will see trades unions undertake their annual rally and protest against government and council cutbacks.

The SPLASH campaign has been fighting to reopen the centre, which was closed in November 2010 due to high running costs and falling user numbers. They claim the centre is a vital resource in a deprived area.
Sally Cieslik, from SPLASH, said:
“It’s the May Day march on Saturday – we have teeshirts and banners and this will give us a platform to raise awareness od our campaign. Assemble 11.30 for 12 noon set off outside the Art Gallery in Leeds.
“Its a good route around town – not too far – and other groups against cuts will be there too. It will only be a couple of hours of your time at most. “
