South Leeds had a visible presence at the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K run on Sunday.
Green was the colour as runners donned the vests and t-shirts of the Leeds Lakers running club, or the famous myrtle and flame of the contingent raising funds for the Hunslet Rugby Foundation.
Bearing the legend ‘Flying with the Hawks’, Team Pryce included players from the Hunslet team of the 1990’s including captain Stephen Pryce, Mick Coyle, David Brook and Richard Baker. First team member home was Luke Waite, finishing in 39min 41sec.
A total of £2,000 was raised for the Hunslet Rugby Foundation which carries the club’s message out into the community, for instance by running rugby and sports sessions in local schools.
South Leeds Lakers has grown rapidly since it was launched in February this year. 80 local people have joined their runs and they regularly attract 30-40 people to their Tuesday evening runs, meeting at Beeston Co-op at 7pm.
