Beeston In Bloom took advantage of the weekend sunshine to spruce up the “cardinal Triangle” on Dewsbury Road. There’s a report on their blog Blooming Beeston.

Beeston food blogger Ewan Mitchell has set himself another project. This time he aims to eat every part of a pig over the course of a year. This week he cooked a Vietnamese Pig Heart Stirfry. Read his adventures and recipes at Everything But The Oink.

Not a South Leeds story as such, but of course the Children’s Heart Surgery row affects us all. The Leeds Citizen has been unpicking how the news story of the closure and eventual restarting of surgery unfolded, pointing out some shoddy journalism and political bandwagon jumping in the process.

Having beaten Oldham last week, Hunslet Hawks reveal that they have drawn French giants Catalan Dragons in the next round of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup. Details of the match, which is to be played at “Le Stade de South Leeds” on 21st April, can be found on their website.

Holbeck Neighbourhood Policing Team report on their Facebook page that they have seized two pit bull terrier-type dogs from a house in Beeston. They are asking for information on any other dangerous dogs in the area. They also have something of a rogues gallery of CCTV portraits of individuals they would like to speak to.

On the Rothwell page of the West Yorkshire Police website there is a report of a spate of burglaries in Belle Isle. However they point out that there have been 36 fewer burglaries in the City & Holbeck Division compared with last year.

Middleton Elderly Aid have added loads of photos to the Facebook page and announced the date for their 2013 members’ holiday in Southport. Are you going?

The organisers of the Cross Flatts Parkrun are appealing for volunteers to help with the organisation of this popular Saturday morning event on their Facebook page.

Hands Off Our Homes are advertising Bassa Bassa’s street music workshop on 16th ahead of the Leeds demonstration on 20th April. They are particularly looking for horn players and percussionists to join in and “make some noise”. It’s all on their Facebook page.

Leeds GATE are advertising an event on their Facebook page. It’s at Dewsbury Road Social Club on 14th April to launch the single “One In A Million” which is set to raise funds for Cancer Research and the William Rhodes appeal.

Aire Valley Homes Facebook page has news of the Middleton Community Group’s meeting on Saturday 13th April at 10:00am, plus support to learn about design and print software with Design & Print United, also in Middleton.

And finally it’s the Westwood Community Association’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday 18th April at Westwood Primary School. As they put it on their Facebook page “Come along and find out what we have been doing in your community over the last 12 months. This is a your chance to vote for who you would like to be on the committee, helping to make your estate a better, safer place to live!”
