South Leeds Roundup: Gates, galas and golf

Here’s your regular roundup of what’s making South Leeds tick on other websites, blogs and across Facebook.

We start this week in Middleton Park. The Friends of Middleton Park have posted these photos of two of the panels created by local schoolchildren for the pillars of the main gate. Aren’t they fantastic?

Now that April Fools Day is out of the way we can move on to the more important issue of Autism, because April is Autism Awareness Month. We have reported previously on work by Hunslet-based Leeds Autism Service. This week Better Lives For People In Leeds publishes a post explaining more.

Meanwhile Amber’s mum Christine has been busy too. Christine has been on Real Radio and Radio Aire explaining what Autism Awareness is all about.

There’s news of Egg-citing Easter Activities at the Supplementary School run by Hamara Centre. Sign up for sports, games, den building, bowling and baking.

Yvette Sheldon from West Yorkshire Trading Standards will be speaking at Beeston Community Forum on Thursday (3 April 2014).

You can find out about Slung Low theatre’s ceilidh and why they were on Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time on their website. Why not sign up to their newsletter while you’re at it?

BITMO’s GATE have updated their website with details of activities for April. There’s a new copy of Bits & Pieces the BITMO newsletter too,  whilst over on Facebook they announce that Belle Isle Gala will be on Saturday 28 June at Windmill Primary School.

We love the South Leeds Pride shown by Hunslet Hawks on Twitter. On Sunday they pointed out that they were the only professional sports club in the city to win at the weekend. Whilst @LittleHarryHawk used the hashtag #EveryThingIsBetterInSouthLeeds

SLATE are holding another vintage fair – this will be on Saturday 7 June at Hillside. The day will feature furniture ‘upstyling’ demonstrations, hair and beauty parlour, live music and dancing and of course tea in their vintage tea rooms.

Each contestant in the Hunslet’s Got Talent final has been profiled on the Hunslet Club Facebook page ahead of Saturday’s show. They also have news of boxer Douglas Pattison who is through to the final of the Amatuer Boxing National Championships – well done! And don’t forget, while your children are taking part in activities, you could be using the Club’s gym.

Leeds Let’s Get Active have details of their activity timetable running through April. They are also asking people to tell them about their experiences of the programme.

And finally, Middleton Park Golf Course have an offer coming up – £9 for a round from 7-13 April to tie in The Masters.
