South Leeds Life Group plots website’s future

The South Leeds Life Group met today to discuss how this website is developing and to plan the next steps.

We met in the cafe at Hillside in Beeston and can recommend their teas and bacon sandwiches!

We are keen to hear as many local voices as possible, reporting what’s going on a discussing the issues that effect us here in South Leeds. Today we discussed a training course that we will be running later in October. This will run over about ten weeks and show you how to write a story using our Community Reporters website. Watch out for more details soon, or email us if you would like to take the course.

You might notice some changes on the site in the coming months, we are planning some new features such as a What’s On page and we are also going to start taking adverts. We sometimes talk about South Leeds Life as a virtual village noticeboard, well these adverts will be the postcards in the newsagents windows. We see this as a community service that will bring in a small income to help us improve and publicise the website.

We discussed which issues are likely to come up over the next month or so. You can expect stories about the boarded up houses in Holbeck awaiting the much-delayed PFI scheme; the Police & Crime Commissioner elections; and a preview of community bonfires for November 5th.

We are pleased with the way South Leeds Life is developing. We have a growing readership and are regularly attracting 10,000 page views per month. But we are also keen to hear what you think of the site. Please tell us in the comments section below, or email us at southleedslife@gmail.com.
