Rowland Road Social Club (WMC) had another busy weekend this week (1-2 August 2015), hosting a packed charity fundraiser gig on Friday, then their latest major darts tournament all day Saturday.
The concert saw 100+ punters enjoy the energy and charms of Elvis, Buddy Holly and Shakin Stevens tribute acts, raising hundreds of pounds for Prostate Cancer UK.
Then hot on its heals the next day, the club welcomed darts players young and old from across Leeds and Yorkshire for a full-day tournament hosted by regional promoters Bradford Darts Promotions.
The men’s competition saw professionally-ranked Darren Johnson from Doncaster beat Les Delderfield with a highly impressive performance in the final. Local lad Jonathan Hewitt, who won the last tournament at the club back in June, could only make it as far as the semi’s this time.
The ladies’ winner was Louise Simmonds, and Tom Gurran won the youth tournament.
Steve Firth, manager of the Rowland Road club, said:
“It’s great to see the club busy with positive, popular events – and on weekends like this, it feels like a real hub for the community. We’re a friendly bunch, and there’s a lot going on, so anyone’s welcome to drop in and find out more, and we’re always open to new ideas and events for the club.”
