[slideshow]More than 80 people attended the launch of the Middleton Life history project at Tenants Hall Enterprise Centre.
The evening saw the unveiling of local history panels put together by a group of local residents who’ve been attending the Heritage Lottery-funded project.
It also saw the premiere of a 25-minute oral history film, which saw Middleton Life members interview their fellow residents about their memories.
The community-based reporters are also writing a special Middleton heritage edition of South Leeds Life community magazine, which will be distributed free to the local community.
With support from Cockburn School, some members have also put together a stained glass window, and pupils at nearby Middleton Primary School have designed a special Middleton tapestry. Both will be displayed at the centre.
Guest speakers were Middleton councillor Judith Blake, Health For All’s Pat McGeever and Ros Taylor from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
A full report of the event will be in the next – special heritage edition – issue of South Leeds Life magazine.
