[slideshow]Members of three local groups came together to hold a joint Eid and Christmas celebration at The Pavilion on Dewsbury Road.
Members of the Koshish Group for Asian women who care for family members with learning difficulties or physical disabilities joined with members of the Himmad group for Asian women carers of people with hearing difficulties for the celebration. Members of the Kahmiri Women’s Group also attended and were treated to food and a party.
Carer Shireen Rehan Saleem cares for her husband and daughter. She told South Leeds Life:
“These groups are a lifeline for me and have made a big difference. I feel relaxed here and I get to meet with other people. This group helped me to understand English – I can now go to places like the doctors and understand what he says. I really enjoy the English lessons.
“I’m in a familiar environment with people I know and I don’t feel as isolated. I have support here, I can share my problems and speak to other people about their experiences, which is very helpful.
“I do not go to parties or clubs and it means everything for me to come here. I would like these groups to continue forever.”
