Slideshow: Business volunteers Give and Gain in Beeston

Volunteers from companies across Leeds decended on Beeston’s Cross Flatts Park on Friday (16 May 2014) for Give And Gain Day.

Give and Gain day is Business In The Community’s flagship event to promote the benefits of employee volunteering. Over 700 staff volunteered across Yorkshire on Friday and Cross Flatts Park was the scene of the biggest event in Leeds.

Councillor Angela Gabriel, Chair of the Friends of Cross Flatts Park welcomed the volunteers:

“Ten years ago this was a forgotten park, but local people have worked with the Council to make it a very popular space. Your work today will help make the park look its best for Yorkshire In Bloom judging and for Beeston Festival on 14 June. Thank you for your help, I hope you enjoy your day out in Beeston.”

The volunteers came from DAC Beachcroft, DLA Piper, DWF, EMIS, Emsleys, TD Direct Investing, Valad and Yorkshire Bank and got stuck into a range of tasks. Supervised by Beeston in Bloom members, they worked on tidying borders, weeding beds, building bird and bat boxes, painting railings and benches and repairing a wall.
