Race for Life at Hugh Gaitskell Primary School

What an amazing day Tuesday 18 June 2019 proved to be – all thanks to the children, staff and families at Hugh Gaitskell Primary School.

Following weeks of rain, a break in the weather paved the way for children, staff and family to remember our treasured Mrs Cook (‘Cookie’), who sadly passed away earlier this year. Mrs Cook’s daughters and relatives planted a magnificent magnolia tree in the school garden and were presented with a book of memories from parents and staff. The tree will serve as a beautiful reminder of Mrs Cook’s kind heart and will be enjoyed by everyone for years to come.

In the afternoon, we held our first ever ‘Race for Life’. Children and staff raced to raise money for Cancer Research UK on behalf of their loved ones. Thanks to the hard work of staff on the day, each child, from Reception to Year 6, managed to take part to the best of their ability.

An amazing £747.40 was raised. It was an inspirational day and the heavens truly shone on us all.
