Public meeting discusses new south Leeds primary school

Plans for a new primary school on the site of the closed |South Leeds Sports Centre at the bottom of Beeston Road will be discussed at a public meeting next Thursday.

The meeting, organised by the council, will be held at Hamara Healthy Living Centre in Tempest Road, Beeston on Thursday, July 12 Presentations by those bidding to run the new primary school will be held at 2pm and 6.30pm.

There will be an opportunity to browse information and have informal discussions about the project between 5pm and 6pm.

The council has asked for potential bidders to run the proposed school, which could be open in September 2014. The successful bidder would run a 420 place school with a 26 place nursery, designed to meet the growing demand for school places in the area.

Campaigners SPLASH are still hoping to get the sports centre reopened or community sports provision built into any new school. The sports centre closed in November 2010.
