Police road safety actvity in Middleton and Belle Isle

In a post on Facebook, the Middleton & Belle Isle Neighbourhood Policing Team reported actions they had taken in the Middleton Park Ward during March as part of their road safety work ‘Fatal 5 Education & Enforcement’:

This month, our team has been working to improve road safety by tackling dangerous driving and illegal vehicle use. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

  • Traffic Offences & Action Taken:
  • Seatbelt Offence – 1 driver caught without a seatbelt.
  • Speeding in 20mph zones:
  • 1 driver at 31mph
  • 3 drivers at 32mph
  • 2 drivers at 33mph
  • No Insurance – 1 driver caught and reported.

Illegal E-Bikes:

  • 2 juveniles stopped for riding illegal e-bikes without insurance or a license—both will attend court.
  • 2 e-bikes seized under police powers.

Other Driving Offences:

  • 1 driver caught without the correct license.
  • 1 driver ran a red light.

Speeding Awareness:

  • Over 20 drivers stopped and given advice on sticking to speed limits.

E-Bike Disruption:

  • Officers stopped Surron bike riders attempting to refuel—investigations ongoing.

Other Key Incidents:

  • Stolen Car Found – A vehicle stolen from Newcastle was recovered.
  • Crime-Linked Vehicle Seized – Involved in dangerous driving.

Why This Matters:
We’re working towards Vision Zero, an initiative aiming for zero road deaths or serious injuries by 2041 in the UK. Research shows that lowering speeds in urban areas significantly reduces fatal accidents. Sticking to the rules isn’t just about avoiding fines—it’s about saving lives.

Let’s keep our Ward safe for everyone.
