Opera North will be holding three events in the coming weeks as part of their community residency in Hunslet and Belle Isle.
On Sunday (18 January 2026) they are presenting a ‘mini Opera’, first at Belle Isle WMC and later at St Joseph’s Catholic Club in Hunslet.
This is a condensed version of the Marriage of Figaro. Lasting just 45 minutes and performed by four singers and an accordion player, it promises to bring you the essence of Mozart’s popular opera, with all its comic twists and turns and fabulous music. Figaro and Suzanna are getting married, but trouble is on the horizon … will the Duke get his wicked way, or will he get his comeuppance?
The free shows are at:
4pm: Belle Isle WMC, Belle Isle Road, LS10 3PE
6:30pm: St Joseph’s Catholic Club, Whitfield Avenue, LS10 2QE
Then on Sunday 25 January, the Orchestra of Opera North present Orchestra Unpacked, a family-friendly concert at Belle Isle TMO’s Gate Centre.
Jo Bedford from Opera North explains:
“Orchestra Unpacked is a treasure hunt with a tuneful twist. It’s a relaxed, interactive concert – singing and moving is not just encouraged, it’s expected!”
The show is on Sunday 25 January at 11:30am at BITMO’s Gate, Aberfield Gate, LS10 3QH.
