It’s been a long time in coming for supporters, but there’s movement – and a potential opening date – at last in the long-running saga of Middleton’s new ASDA.
One of the members of Middleton Community Group has posted a letter she received from ASDA on Facebook which says the supermarket giant is finally in a position to announce a timescale for development. Work on demolishing buildings and building a new access road to the recycliong centre is due to start this summer, with a view for a November 2013 opening.
The letter, from property communications manager Philip Bartram, blames the delays – which date back a couple of years – on ‘complex land ownership issues’, the relocation of an existing business and the construction of a new access road to the recycling centre. He adds that three quarters of the estimated 375 new jobs being created will be recruited from within a three-mile radius of the store.
