The new community orchard and edible garden in Cross Flatts Park is shaping up nicely!
As we reported last week, three planting beds have been prepared by the council’s Parks and Countryside department, ripe for sowing a selection of fruit trees, fruit bushes and shrubs such as strawberries, blackcurrants and gooseberries. Two local primary schools – Cross Flatts and Hunslet Moor – local volunteers, members of the Friends of Cross Flatts Park group and Hamara all took part in the planting.
As our photo shows, on a beautiful sun-kissed day everyone’s hard work already looks to be paying off. Isn’t it amazing what a bit of community spirit and hard graft can do?
