New Beeston and Holbeck school plans move step forward – despite protest

South Leeds Sports Centre in Beeston

Plans for a new primary school on the site of the former South Leeds Sports Centre have moved a step closer to reality.

The council’s powerful executive board has agreed to invite bids from groups interested in running the proposed school, which would house 420 pupils and a 26-place nursery if given final approval.

The decision followed a period of public consultation and a protest from SPLASH campaigners fighting to get the sports centre and pool reopened.  The campaigners have promised to fight on and will meet this evening at Hillside (7pm) to discuss their next protest event – all welcome to attend.
