Middleton man to race in front of Olympic crowd

Adam Blackburn from Middleton is making the step up from Cross Flatts Parkrun to the 4x100m sprint relay in the Olympic Stadium at this weekend’s (24-26 July 2015) third Anniversary Games.

The Games take place in London at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. As well as Adam, over three days we will be able to watch Usain Bolt, Christine Ohuruogu and Jess Ennis-Hill compete for glory.

Adam BlackburnAdam will be taking part having won a competition with the Heart FM London radio station. OK, so he won’t be competing directly against Usain Bolt, but Adam will be racing in front of the Diamond League crowd as part of Heart FM’s Breakfast v Drive challenge.

Adam is one of six listeners picked to support the team captains Jamie Theakston Lucy Horobin in the curtain raising race on Saturday.

Adam, who now lives in Bedfordshire, grew up in Middleton and played football for Robin Hood Athletic and Rothwell Juniors and rugby for Leeds Corinthians. More recently he has taken up running including the free weekly Parkrun and the Run For All Leeds 10K and York 10K races.

As well as racing on Saturday, Adam is looking forward to watching athletics stars in action on Friday and Saturday with his family.
