Hunslet TARA’s action day

Hunslet Tenants and Residents Association are asking for helpers for their next big action day on Friday 2 July 2021) at 12pm. Working with volunteers and Leeds City Council, they aim to give their estate a deep clean and tidy up. Stewart Walton, Hunslet TARA Chair said:

“We’ve worked really hard over the last few months on tidying up the estate and our weekly litter picks have made a big difference. My hope is this deep clean will allow us to do much more in one big go. This will make so it is easier to keep on top of litter and other issues with our weekly volunteer activity as each week we’ll be starting from a better place.”

A number of council services are being lined up to help on the day, including Cleaner Neighbourhoods Team and the Gully Cleaning Team (subject to availably). Volunteers will be asked to help with tasks such as litter picking, weeding and pathways soil encroachment removal. Leeds City Council will be helping provide equipment on the day. Cllr Paul Wray added:

“From the Councils perspective – this is great! The last year has seen a lot spend locally on new bins and benches etc. but the pandemic has meant regular cleaning was badly impacted. Local residents have been doing a great job over the last few months but the more of a deep clean we can do on the day – the easier it will be for residents and council services to maintain the area going forward.”

It is planned to be the first of a multiple set of action days throughout the year, with the aim of getting the estate in a much cleaner state each time – thus improving the overall environment and cleanness of the area overtime. They will be meeting at 12pm on Friday 2 July at the Church of the Nazarene on Grove Road, Hunslet. You can contact Hunslet TARA on hunslettara@yahoo.com.
