Hunslet Carr Primary raises close to £300 for St George’s Crypt

During the Spring Term, the Year 6 children at Hunslet Carr Primary School did topic work around the question, “How can we spread love, not hate?”

Throughout this topic, the children learned about various street artists (including having a visit from the amazing Burley Banksy who will be helping the children paint their artwork onto nearby electrical boxes!) and how the artists use art to spread messages. The children also learned about stereotypes and prejudice, as well as homeless people and the impact this can have on them.

During the topic, the children had to come up with a design inspired by the street artists they had learned about, and then create a T-shirt with their design on it. These T-shirts were then auctioned off at a hugely successful event in the school hall, where around £300 was raised through the hard work of the children and the generosity of parents and family members who bid on the children’s T-shirts.

Karen from St George’s Crypt came into school for the event and said:

“It was an absolute pleasure and a privilege to come along and see the amazing work that was undertaken by the staff, children and parents involved. Thank you for the opportunity to be involved with the amazing project. It was very moving and particularly poignant having a parent there and their son as a former friend who has experienced the Crypt.”
