Holbeck brewery Northern Monk have announced the launch of a new exclusive beer for International Women’s Day in collaboration with the British organisation Young Women’s Trust.
Every year on 8 March, International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world, and acts as a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. As a business committed to and proud of the diversity in their teams, equality in the industry and beyond is something close to Northern Monk’s heart so they relish the opportunity to support and celebrate it wherever they can.
Starting in January, an all–female project team composed of 14 Northern Monk volunteers from different areas of the business have worked on what International Women’s Day would mean for the brewery this year, and they had full control of the creative and technical development of the project.
International Women’s Day 2022’s theme “Break The Bias” encourages a more inclusive and equitable society through confronting stereotypes, discrimination, and inequality, and Northern Monk wanted to match that message of hope, optimism, and pragmatism rather than dwelling on the negative connotations, so the project team has decided to collaborate with an organisation making practical steps towards economic justice for women – Young Women’s Trust – and to brew a beer that would platform their efforts.
As part of the collaboration, Northern Monk has brewed a bespoke and exclusive 5.5% Hazy Pale Ale, featuring a peel–and–reveal label to help maximise the message of the project. It is showcasing on the outer part 16 women who played a role in breaking the bias for women – selected by each member of the project team – and on the inner part a description of Young Women’s Trust mission, actions, services they provide to women, how to get involved and create change, and a QR code to make a donation to the organisation.
Northern Monk x Young Women’s Trust “Break The Bias” beer will be on sale from Tuesday 8 March 2022 at 11pm, and available to purchase here: northernmonkshop.com/products/international–womens–day–break–the–bias–hazy–pale–ale
Northern Monk will also be supporting Young Women’s Trust with a £5,000 grant from their Faith in Futures Foundation. More information on their Foundation and the projects they have already supported can be found here: northernmonk.com/faith–in–futures
Additionally, some members of the project team will be contributing their paid time as part of Northern Monk “Giving Back Days” initiative to supporting the Work It Out service, providing CV writing assistance and feedback to young women.
Young Women’s Trust empowers young women with the tools to unlock their potential, build a fairer working future and learn from one another. That is why this International Women’s Day they are celebrating how all of us work together to make meaningful change for young women.
How to get involved and create change:
- Sign up for their free support service or share with a young woman
- Donate to help them continue to provide young women with opportunities
- Fundraise with them to help make equality for young women a reality
Claire Reindorp, CEO, Young Women’s Trust said:
“We’re delighted that Northern Monk have created this beer to help spread the word about our work this International Women’s Day. Thank you, too, for your generous donation to support our vital work with young women. With the support of companies like Northern Monk, we can make equality for young women a reality.”
Mélanie Vallat, Marketing Manager, Northern Monk added:
“We at Northern Monk are very committed to and proud of the diversity in our teams, then for this year’s International Women’s Day, we have decided to gather an all–female project team who would make all the decisions about it, and I have been extremely proud to see that many women from different areas of our brewery wanted to take part. The team has decided to spread a global message of positivity, outside of the beer industry, and to brew a beer that would be both a celebration of women that broke the bias for women, and a platform for a feminist organisation making positive and concrete changes in women’s lives. We are very proud to be able to support Young Women’s Trust with our next Faith in Futures Foundation grant, making one of our Core values meaningful: ‘Community’.”
