Hillside Cafe Is SLATE’s New Business

Have you heard of The Feel Good Furniture Shop in Hunslet?  Well, now we have The Feel Good Cafe as well, in Beeston.

The Feel Good Cafe opened in January at Hillside, Beeston Road LS11 8ND.  We serve hot and cold drinks, meals and snacks.  You can sit at a table, or on a comfy sofa.  All the furniture is for sale! There’s lots of interesting bric-a-brac, too.

It’s all very friendly.  Alan, who serves on the till, does sign language, so no problem for our customers who are deaf.  Hillside is a big old school and lots of different organisations are based there, including Fulfilling Lives (Leeds City Council’s day services for people with learning disabilities).  So lots of the people we know from Moor End are now our customers in the cafe!  (If you remember, SLATE started at Moor End.)

We hope to have some volunteers with learning difficulties working in the cafe very soon.

The Feel Good Furniture Shop is also going well, at Low Road, Hunslet LS10 1QR.  We have with lots of new customers.  Some customers come in nearly every day!  Our staff team includes people with learning difficulties.

We are all going on more training soon, in health and safety, first aid, customer service and computer skills.

We are very proud of Patrick, one of our driver’s mates.  He has done his travel training and now he comes into work independently on the number 12 bus every day.
