Heritage Trail to be unveiled in Cross Flatts Park

Last September, Beeston in Bloom and the Friends of Cross Flatts Park took part in the Leeds Heritage Open Days event. This included tours of the park and a display in the café of the park, past and present.

It was a great success and showed the desire of local people to know more about the long and vibrant history of the park.

Cllr Paul Wray (Labour, Hunslet and Riverside) and Cllr Andrew Scopes (Labour, Beeston and Holbeck) where so impressed with the success of the tours they agreed it would be a great addition to the park to include to a permanent heritage trail.

Ten new lectern style information boards were then commissioned and with the plan to place these throughout the park to encourage people to visit the area and walk around to learn it fascinating history.

Having secured funding from councillors on the Inner South Community Committee for the project, a small group of interested partners helped with the content and design – with support being provided by Leeds City Council Climate Energy and Green space service, Beeston in Bloom, and Friends of Cross Flatts Park – all providing their rich knowledge and passion for the area to develop the information boards.

The boards are now being produced and will be installed, with the Lord Mayor officially unveil the display on Tuesday 12 March 2024 at 10:30am.

Everyone is invited to attend.
