Moon rock and chocolate will feature as Middleton Railway resumes operations this weekend (26 March 2016) with trains running on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The weekend has a special Space theme, with an exhibition of Moon Dust and Meteorites. This has been arranged in conjunction with Harrogate Astronomical Society, and is supported by NASA. Admission to this special exhibition is separate from the train rides, and is free.
The trains will run on their regular timetable and they will be giving away free chocolate to fare-paying children travelling on the train services.
This opening weekend at the world’s oldest working railway is just the first in a series of special events for 2016. Through April and May the railway will be linking with Friends of Middleton Park to offer Mining Tales and Trails and the popular Bluebell Walks through the woods above the top station.
June will see the return of the model railway exhibition on 18 and 19th. A Steam Punk fair will be held on the first weekend of July followed by a Victorian Gala weekend on 16 and 17 July. There will be more events in the autumn and the season will close with the ever popular Santa Specials.
The regular train service runs every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4:30pm. Saturday trains are usually pulled by diesel engines, whilst Sunday services are usually steam.
