Friends of Holbeck Cemetery

The Friends of Holbeck Cemetery have become  a Friend of South Leeds Life.

Friends logo 2The Friends of Holbeck Cemetery, writes Eve Tidswell, are a community group founded in 2001 in response to growing concerns about the gradual destruction of this wonderful site of historical significance to the area. The Victorian cemetery opened in 1857 and the Friends group has some original receipt books from that date.

We are working towards promoting the heritage and enabling a positive movement to preserve and protect this valuable green space in inner-city Leeds. We conduct tours and walks on site for various groups of adults, young people  & schoolchildren. We also provide talks and presentations at events and conferences, both locally and nationally. We are affiliated to Leeds Civic Trust.

We offer membership of £6 per person or £3pp (unwaged) per year and this entitles you to join us at West Yorkshire Playhouse Community nights where you can see the latest productions at greatly reduced prices: a great social time together.

Friends of Holbeck CemeteryAs a member you have an opportunity to help plant trees etc.in the cemetery, help  with research, help with walks/talks, join us at meetings with other groups, attend Leeds Civic Trust Affiliated Group meetings twice a year, write a blog for www.holbeckcemetery.wordpress.com and meet some really interesting people.
