Free pre-employment training courses this April

It’s great news for jobseekers as a training provider in Holbeck is offering nine fully-funded training courses in April.

Established training provider Think Employment deliver a range of week-long pre-employment courses every month to people who wanted to upskill and find a new career, are offering them for free to jobseeker, providing they meet certain criteria stipulated by the government. Throughout April, they will be deliver nine unique training courses to people who want to get an introduction to life working in different sectors.

Starting on Monday 1 April are two courses: one delivering the skills required to work in Customer Service and the other an Employment Pathways programme that helps people breakdown primary and secondary barriers to employment.

The following week, Think Employment will be delivering a two-week Basic ICT workshop that equips people with basic digital skills needed to use a computer or the internet in everyday life as well and the modern workplace. The same week there’s also a Warehousing & Storage workshop that provides important skills and knowledge to assist people in their attempt to find work in one of the UK’s fastest-growing sectors.

The week before Good Friday, jobseekers can book onto the four-day Customer Service Plus training course that will build on people’s existing customer service skills and qualifications and introduce others to aspects of both sales and marketing.

Then after the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, people can give their Hospitality skills a boost and receive specialist Barista training through 200 Degrees Coffee or they will have another chance to enrol on the Customer Service workshop.

Finally, starting Monday 29 April, there’s a Retail course that comes with a Health & Safety in the workplace qualification and a Care workshop which includes a standard DBS check – both of which are highly sought after by employers and will add real value to a jobseeker’s CV.

“People who do our training say that they feel better supported in taking the next steps towards a new career,” said Sabrina Leathley, Think Employment’s Learner Recruiter.

“But on top of that they also tell us how coming to us helps to build their confidence and social skills as well.”

In addition to all of the pre-employment courses on offer in April, people who enrol on a Think Employment workshop will also benefit from their ‘into work support service’ and receive CV assistance, interview preparation and help applying for jobs.

To be able to receive these courses free of charge, people need to be over the age of 19, lived in the UK or EU for the last three years and in receipt of a work-related benefit. Alternatively, people in employment who earn less than £15,736pa can also receive the training fully funded as long as they can attend the full five-day course.

So if you can get to Think Employment’s St David’s Court learning centre in Holbeck, around 10 minutes walk from the train station in the city centre, and would like to gain new skills, qualifications and stand a better chance of finding yourself a new career in April, this could be the only gift you need this Easter.
