Free cycle training returns to Cross Flatts Park

Free adult cycle training is back this year at Cross Flatts Park and it all starts tomorrow (Wednesday 26 May 2021).

From learning to ride for the first time, or cycle confidence sessions, or one to one advanced training there will be a full programme of activity available weekly, delivered by Cycle North, funded by City Connect and working with Active Leeds and partners.

Free socially distanced sessions are available to book each week with a qualified instructor.

Whether you’re looking to learn to ride for the first time or if you want to get back on a bike having not cycled in years, or even decades, we’re here to help.

A number of bookable sessions available each week at Cross Flatts Park, from outside the Watsonia Pavilion:

Learn to ride – for the complete beginner

Experienced instructors will guide you step by step, from getting on and off, to bike handling and balance.

Beginner – for the new or returning rider

These sessions are delivered in a traffic-free environment for people who can already ride but want to build up their confidence. They’ll help you pick up the skills and knowledge you need to go down to the local park or to take a trip out into the countryside.

Improver – for people who want to make short road journeys safely

Gain the skills and confidence to ride alongside other road users. Learn to keep the best position on the road, communicate with other road users, anticipate other’s behaviour and stay safe. Sessions start on quiet streets and progress onto busier roads as skills and confidence develop.

All three sessions are running throughout June. Bikes will be available to borrow at all group training sessions.

Places are limited and we recommend people book onto sessions as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

If for any reason you cannot make a session you are booked on to, please let the relevant training provider know so another person can benefit.
