Former care home land in Beeston to be auctioned

The site of the former Park Lees old people’s home off Town Street in Beeston is to be sold at auction by Leeds City Council according to a report published this week.

The 0.51 hectare (1.2 acre) site lies between Beeston Village Community Centre, Hugh Gaitskell Primary School and the DePuy factory. The site is allocated for housing in the Site Allocations Plan, but any scheme would have to go through the usual planning application process.

The old people’s home was demolished in 2011 and the grassed site has been public open space since then. It was recently the scene of a traveller encampment.

In consultation Beeston & Holbeck Councillors Andrew Scopes and Angela Gabriel raised issues around value for money and the trees on site. Officers confirmed that a reserve price would be set for the auction and that the trees would be dealt with through the planning process.
