There are just 45 days until Beeston Festival takes place in Cross Flatts Park on Saturday 9th June between 12:00 and 5:00pm. As one of the organisers I thought I ought to let South Leeds Life readers in on what we’ve got planned for this year.
We always like to give people the chance to get involved in activities at Beeston Festival and this year we are giving that an Olympic spin with the Beeston Decathlon. This is slightly different to Daley Thompson’s ten athletics events – there will be a choice of activities around the site ranging from Rugby League and Taekwondo through to Belly Dancing and Giant Jenga. Just collect ten stamps on your card to claim your goody bag!
Music is always a big part of the Festival and this year we are delighted to have Hope & Social headlining, ably supported by local ska and mod heroes The Detail. Over on the acoustic stage you will find the a capella voices of Solaris, a bit of satire from Hayden Cohen and a performance of the Tony Harrison poem “V” from Helen Robinson. Meanwhile Leeds Music Trust will be promoting five local bands at the top of the park. Once again, the Festival hosts one of the semi finals of the Junior Superstar young persons talent competition – always popular on the main stage.
There will be lots for children and young people to do: arts and crafts, bouncy castles, lazerquest, sports and of course the fun fair. Meanwhile there will be plenty to browse in the Bazaar which will feature 100 stalls spread out across the top of the park: food, plants, jams, games, information and much more provided by local people and community organisations.
Everything’s coming together for another great day, will we see you there?
