Over the last five weeks our students have learned what “hyperlocal blogging” means; they’ve learned to take better photographs to illustrate their posts with trips to Middleton Park and Leeds City Museum. Last week we looked at structuring a news story.

This week we looked at headlines, opinion pieces and how not to get into legal hot water. Their assignment was to write about their views on local shops – you can read what they think in their posts which will be appearing over the next day or two.

Over the next few weeks they will learn about interviewing skills, social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc) and using audio recordings in a session run by South Leeds Community Radio.

If this sounds like the sort of thing you would be interested in learning, there are two more opportunities coming up shortly.

We are looking to start the next course running in the evenings, probably 6:30 – 8:30pm, starting in late June and running over the summer. There will also be another daytime course starting in September. If you would like more details, or would like to book onto either of these courses please email southleedslife@gmail.com or ring Jeremy on 07894 583966.
