
Residents, community leaders, performers, and dignitaries came together on Sunday (31 May 2026) for the ISSE Believe In Beeston Culture Show and Beeston Bangladeshi Community Excellence Awards 2026 held at Slung Low’s Warehouse in Holbeck.
The event, organised by ISSE Ltd (Inspire Support Sports Empower) and supported by Leeds City Council, celebrated the achievements, sacrifices, and contributions of members of the Bangladeshi community in Beeston and across Leeds.
The event featured Bengali cultural performances, music, traditional food, speeches, and a special awards ceremony recognising individuals who have dedicated decades of service to supporting local communities.
Special guests included the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Stephen Holroyd, and Dr Kuldip Bharj OBE DL, Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, alongside academics, faith leaders, and community representatives from across the city.
The Beeston Bangladeshi Community Excellence Awards 2026 were presented to:
- Abdur Rahman Khan
- Mrs Parveen Akhtar (Reshma)
- Al Haj Giash Uddin
- Mrs Minara Begum
Each recipient was recognised for their lifelong dedication to community development, education, cultural preservation, voluntary service, and supporting generations of families within Leeds.
Humayun Islam BEM BCAc, Director of ISSE Ltd, said:
“This event was about recognising the stories, sacrifices, and achievements of people who helped build and strengthen our community over many decades.
“We wanted to create a celebration that brought together people of all ages and backgrounds through culture, unity, and community pride.
“It was inspiring to see so many residents, organisations, and community leaders come together in such a positive and welcoming atmosphere.”
The programme included performances from Lina Paul, Ali Flex, and other performers who showcased Bengali culture and music throughout the day.
ISSE Ltd also thanked Tawfiq Wahab from Unity Through Culture and Komar Uddin for their support in planning and coordinating the event, alongside volunteers and community organisations who helped deliver the successful celebration.
The Believe In Beeston project forms part of ISSE Ltd’s wider work supporting community cohesion, wellbeing, inclusion, and positive community engagement across South Leeds.
