Children from Windmill Primary School will be out and about performing Christmas music in Hunslet and Belle Isle on Thursday (5 December 2013), culminating with the switching on of the Christmas lights on Belle Isle Circus.
The school has been working with teams from Opera North’s In Harmony programme. Every child in the school is learning a string instrument (violins, cellos and double basses) and singing.
Children from Years 3-6 performed at St John & St Barnabas Church in Belle Isle yesterday, along with players from the Opera North orchestra. There was also a first performance by the new community choir. There will be a number of performances on Thursday:
8:50am Windmill Primary School, Small Hall
10:45am Morrisons, Penny Hill Centre
11:45am Belle Isle Family Centre
1:45pm Trinity Network, Nesfield Road
2:20pm BITMO’s GATE
Then the entire school will join the crowds on Belle Isle Circus for the Christmas Lights switch on at 3:15pm. Children and parents have been making lanterns to brighten the event and there will be the chance to sing some of your favourite carols with orchestra and singers of In Harmony Opera North.
The Community Choir meets on Friday lunchtimes (12:15 – 1:20pm) in term time at Hunslet Parkside rugby club on Belle Isle Road. It’s free, there are no auditions and everyone is welcome.
