The club will be holding a “Celebration day” in memory of Geoff Gunney MBE when we entertain Oldham RLFC on Sunday 24th June. The game takes place at the South Leeds Stadium, 3:30pm kick off.
Geoff was my childhood hero when I saw him play at Parkside with my Dad, and later by myself.
He gave me a tie, and many times signed my match day program.
When we left Parkside (a sad day for Hunslet) Geoff was last off the field at the last match.
It’s down to Geoff we found a new place to hold matches – the Greyhound track on Elland Road, when Geoff on this occasion was first on pitch.
We played at Elland Road for awhile, but Leeds United moaned about the state of the pitch when we played there.
Eventually had a home at South Leeds Stadium. Maybe we could name the stand after Geoff? RIP Geoff.
