Brown bin collections stop for winter

Brown binCollections of brown bins will stop temporarily from 29 November.

The regular collections of garden waste are suspended every year as demand for the service is low. Experience shows that with fewer jobs to do in the garden over the winter months, brown bins aren’t used as much, if at all.

Garden waste can still be disposed of at one of the city’s eight recycling centres, including Holmewell Road in Middleton (behind the new Asda).

Brown bin collections will resume on 2 March 2015.

Councillor Mark Dobson, executive board member for cleaner, stronger and safer communities, said:

“We just want to give residents a quick reminder that the brown bin service will be suspended soon. There’s still time to do any last minute jobs about the garden before the collections stop. After that, garden waste can still be recycled at our recycling centres.”

Recycling centres are open 8am to 4pm, seven days a week during winter. The centres only shut on 25 and 26 December and 1 January.
