From 25th October, Belle Isle’s old library will be known as BITMO’s GATE.
The tenant-led organisation, which manages almost 2,000 council houses in Belle Isle, chose the name at a recent Board meeting.
The old library will now be known as BITMO’s GATE “a resource centre for Belle Isle”. The name GATE was chosen as it reflects the intention and purpose of the new space; somewhere to Get Advice Training and Employment.
“We hope that the new centre will be a friendly, well used and activity-packed space where residents can get help and support from, whilst accessing local services… in a nutshell, “somewhere to Get Advice, Training and Employment.” Explained Carla Yeomans, Project Development Manager at BITMO.
The new centre will be officially opened on Friday 25 October 2013 by Hilary Benn MP (Leeds Central). The ceremony will also feature children from Windmill Primary School and a selection of agencies that will be running events at BITMO’s GATE.
Events will be held throughout the following week, half term, to showcase the resource centre. On Wednesday 30October there will be a school uniform swap, supported by Windmill and Clapgate primary schools, between 1:30 and 3pm. Other events include a Police surgery with your local PCSOs, a computer class to help you get online, a free healthy breakfast and brand taste test with West Yorkshire Trading Standards. You’ll find details of all the events on South Leeds Life’s events calendar.
