Before it closed in 1988 the old Belle Isle Hotel was a hub for the community boasting its own rugby team.

The building on Low Grange Crescent is now the Victoria House Residential Home, but former player Mick Hyde has organised a reunion night on Saturday (5 August 2017) at St Joseph’s Catholic Club on Whitfield Avenue in Hunslet.

Mick commented: “The event is to bring together past players, supporters and friends who frequented the pub. Two of the coaches included Peter Jarvis and Mick Shoebottom. The 1st and 2nd teams enjoyed much success.

“Many relationships were formed in the pub and I’m glad to say still exist with grown up children. The pub was definitely the hub of the Belle Isle community and surrounding areas.

“August 5 is my 65th birthday and ex-players Pat & Peter Banks are bringing their 65th birthday celebrations forward a tad.”

The fun starts at 12 noon are will run through with a buffet and disco by Dawn Silverwood. Everyone is welcome.
